The Australian Vascular Biology Society (AVBS) is an organization active throughout Australia and New Zealand, and aims to foster research communication and collaboration between scientists and clinicians from multiple disciplines, with a unifying interest in the biology and pathology of the entire vascular system. The Society was established in 1992 with a major focus of the Society on convening an Annual Scientific Meeting. The AVBS has convened 21 meetings and has also co-hosted the International Vascular Biology Meetings (IVBM) in 1998 (Cairns) and in 2008 (Sydney), as well as the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) Meeting in 2005 (Sydney). A major aim of AVBS is to foster the development and growth of young researchers in the area of vascular biology through provision of Travel Fellowships to attend IVBM meetings, as well as networking opportunities at the Society Annual Meeting.
