Even though blood supply is important to the viability of normal healthy bone, especially when it comes to successfully treating fractures and diseases of the bone, it is a topic which is not very popular  for orthopaedic research and investigation. As a result, not much progress is being made in terms of discovering new knowledge in this field. In VCOT 5/2011, however, a detailed study has been done which compares the morphology of the medullary blood supply of the tibia of cats and small dogs. To read more, see the article by D.
