TPLO and Implant Removals

In 1993, the tibial plateau levelling osteotomy (TPLO) was first described by Slocum and since then is has become widely used for the treatment of canine cranial cruciate ligament deficient stifles. However, information regarding the removal of TPLO implants remains lacking. It is however essential to have an understanding of the factors related to implant associated complications as such complications may necessitate revision surgery, and increase the patient morbidity and client expenditure. The purpose of the study by A.M. Thompson et al. will hopefully help to provide a better understanding in this area; the purpose of their study was to identify the prevalence of and clinical indications for TLPO removal.
