Cranial cruciate ligament rupture is one of the most common conditions affecting the stifle joint in dogs. There are a number of ways in which this can be surgically treated, though commonly tibial plateau levelling osteotomy or extra capsular stabilization are used. Both have their advantages, though many surgeons feel that the TPLO is more suitable and has a faster recovery and better funtion. Although a number of articles have postulated this, there has been no objective study demonstrating this. The objective of this study was to objectively analyse the changes in lameness improvement in dogs treated with both of these methods. for more information, see the article by J. Böddeker et al. in Opens external link in new windowVCOT 1/2012.
