DISCOS-meeting at Schattauer Publishers

DISCOS-members in front of Schattauer

From December 3-4, the members of the DISCOS network met in order to exchange interdisciplinary ideas.

DISCOS (Disorders of Coherence of the Embodied Self) is a co-operation of researchers from different disciplinary areas within the field of human personality and its pathological disturbances. It is hoped that through the exchange of ideas by international researchers from different fields, and the development of a network, the limitations of single theoretical approaches will be overcome.

The goal of DISCOS is to merge particular natural and humanistic science perspectives into holistic knowledge, from which we can come to a deeper understanding and create better treatments for mental illnesses. The EU is the official sponsor for this multinational research project.

The Braintertainers

Exchange in Stuttgart

At Schattauer Publishers, a number of joint workshops looking at various current issues were held. Following this, an evening event on the 3rd of December was held in a local venue with a stage for live performances. Here, the jazz band “Braintertainers” performed for the guests. Usually this band is composed of the following members: Prof. Dr. Mandred Spitzer, a researcher of the mind and learning processes; Dr. Wulf Bertram who is a doctor, publisher and psychotherapist; and Joram Ronel, a Munich based internist and pianist. In addition, the scientific coordinator of DISCOS, Dr. Heribert Sattel, was a “guest star” in the band and played the bass. A short video of the musical performance, as well as pictures from the event can be seen below.
