Schattauer Publishers is an owner-managed company, independent from media groups and investment firms. It is being managed by owner and publisher Dieter Bergemann. Dipl.-Psych. Dr. Wulf Bertram, as second managing director, is responsible for the scientific contents of the publishing program. Since 2008, Jan Haaf also forms part of the executive board.
Currently about 60 employees work for Schattauer and the publishing house is growing steadily (both in terms of its workforce as well as economically). A network of authors, consultants and reviewers from all medical areas, well-associated with leading universites around the world, guarantees topicality and well-founded information in our scientific books and journals.

Currently, about
600 titles are available from Schattauer (with 60 new publications approx. each year), mostly atlasses, text- and reference books for physicians and students as well as other health professionals. Numerous titles have been published in various languages, both by Schattauer as well as under license by international publishers. The color atlasses enjoy a worldwide reputation, especially the title
“Anatomie des Menschen” (Color Atlas of Anatomy), which has already been published in 20 languages. By now a major emphasis lies on monographs and textbooks on psychosomatic medicine, psychiatry and psychotherapy.

20 journals on human and veterinary medicine, medical informatics, psychology, psychotherapy and psychiatry are another focus of Schattauer’s activities.
“Nervenheilkunde” (Neurology) has the highest circulation of all Schattauer’s journals with about 30.000 copies per issue and 11 issues per year. The English-speaking journal
“Thrombosis and Haemostasis” is distributed all around the world and due to its high impact factor offers a prominent international stage in the field of blood coagulation. In addition to the print versions, all journals are avaible online. In order to allow for the growing importance of web-based media, Schattauer founded its first electronic-only journal,
ACI – Applied Clinical Informatics, in 2010.
