Six decades of Thrombosis and Haemostasis – journal celebrates 60-year anniversary

Stuttgart, July 2017 – This year marks the 60th anniversary of the launch of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, the successful journal published by Schattauer Verlag, Stuttgart. The journal's main focus is on diagnostics and treatment of blood and vascular diseases.

In 1957, a team of researchers from Austria, Germany, and Switzerland – Erwin Deutsch, Rudolf Jürgens, Fritz Koller, and Paul Matis – launched the journal under its original title Thrombosis et Diathesis Haemorrhagia. The publication soon gained international recognition and is among the most important titles in Schattauer's portfolio today. One of the leading journals in its field, Thrombosis and Haemostasis has an impact factor of 5.627. The monthly periodical publishes original articles and clinical studies for its target audience of haematologists, clinical pharmacologists, cardiologists, surgeons, gynecologists, internal medicine specialists and laboratory physicians.

"Our journal may be celebrating its 60th birthday, but we are very much young at heart, with fresh ideas and energy," the publishers stated in Thrombosis and Haemostasis' New Year's editorial. The editorial board follows discerning academic and scientific standards combined with a modern publication format. As of July, the established subscription journal will be complemented by the open access publication TH Open, introduced by Georg Thieme Verlag in cooperation with Schattauer. The new open access journal will follow the PWYW (pay what you want) pricing strategy, which leaves the decision of how much the publication of an article in the new English-language journal is worth up to the author.
